A generous body, subtle acidity and a long, spicy finish: India Malabar stands out for its deep, rich cup, with notes of tobacco, dark chocolate and nutmeg. Its rounded character and pronounced bitterness will appeal to lovers of bold, full-bodied espressos.

This arabica comes from Tamil Nadu, a state in southern India where coffee is cultivated on mountainous terrain at altitudes ranging from 800 to 1,600 metres. The coffee trees grow beneath a diverse canopy of shade trees, in a tropical environment characterised by fertile soils and abundant rainfall.

The name Monsooned Malabar refers to its distinctive processing method and to the Malabar Coast, where the monsoon winds gradually transform the coffee after harvesting.

Hand-picked coffee cherries are first sun-dried using the natural process, then hulled to extract the green coffee beans. These are subsequently spread out in open-sided warehouses, sheltered from the rain but exposed to the humid monsoon air.

The beans are regularly raked and turned to ensure even exposure to moisture. They are then packed into bags arranged in widely spaced rows, allowing air to circulate freely. After approximately six to seven weeks, the beans have absorbed some of the surrounding humidity, expanded in size and developed their characteristic pale yellow colour. A final manual sorting takes place before shipment.

This distinctive process gives Malabar its unmistakable profile: low acidity, a rich, full-bodied texture and woody, spicy aromas.

Our developed roast highlights notes of dark chocolate and tobacco, complemented by a hint of nutmeg. As an espresso, India Malabar delivers a dense, enveloping mouthfeel, followed by a lingering finish marked by a pleasantly pronounced bitterness.
