The Bourbon Pointu Laurina from Reunion Island is a rare and iconic coffee, cultivated on Patrice De Berge's plantation, in the Bérive – Le Tampon region, in the south of the island. Located from 800 meters above sea level, on highly fertile volcanic soils thanks to the proximity of the Piton de la Fournaise, the plots benefit from a temperate climate (19°C on average) and controlled rainfall, ideal conditions for the expression of this grand cru. Discovered in 1771 on the former Bourbon Island, Bourbon Pointu is the result of a natural mutation of traditional Bourbon. Recognizable by its pointed cherries and elongated beans, it was once highly prized at the court of Louis XV. Today, it is being revived thanks to the commitment of passionate producers like Patrice De Berge, who cultivates exclusively using agroforestry, without chemicals. The coffee trees are protected by acacias and jackfruit trees, while legumes naturally enrich the soil with nitrogen. The cherries are harvested manually, then processed using a natural method, sun-dried, and hand-sorted with the utmost care. Naturally low in caffeine, the Laurina variety offers a cup of great elegance. We chose a relatively light roast to preserve all the aromatic delicacy of this exceptional coffee. In the cup, it reveals a fine and harmonious texture, carried by notes of almond, vanilla, and lychee, which extend into a subtly fruity and refined finish. A rare and precious coffee, reflecting Reunion's coffee heritage and the artisanal savoir-faire of Patrice De Berge's plantation.
