The name "Maragogype" refers to a botanical variety that stems from a mutation of the Arabica Typica. The beans owe their nickname "Elephant beans" to their abnormally large size. This coffee comes from the province of Jinotega, the principal region for coffee cultivation in Nicaragua. It gets it's firm character from the volcanic nature of the soil it grows on. The unequal maturation of the Maragogype berries render it's production laborious. It requires up to 8 harvests per year.
