Coffee was introduced to Burundi by Belgium in the 1930s. Since the 1980s, the government has increased investment by developing a dense network of washing stations to be as close as possible to the crops. Producers have thus become more organized, forming small cooperatives and ensuring the traceability of their precious coffees. The microclimate of the Muyinga hills and mountains, combined with fertile soil, is perfect for growing this delicious specialty coffee (SCA score: 83). The beans are hand-picked, washed at the Butihinda washing station, fermented for 14 hours, and then spread out in the sun on African beds for a varying period depending on climatic conditions. This Bourbon variety coffee, for which we have chosen a very light roast, offers a silky body and a lively acidity with notes of blackberries and oranges in the cup.
